Description
Labisia sp. Jangkang Turtleback White Form is a rare tropical foliage plant associated with Jangkang, West Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia. Since it is still labeled as “sp.”, the exact species has not been formally confirmed, so it is best introduced as a locality/trade form rather than a named species. This Jangkang White Form is reported through locality/trade information to come from deeper forest areas compared to the more common green Turtleback forms. The name “Turtleback” refers to the bold leaf pattern that resembles a turtle shell. In Indonesian/Malay trade, similar patterned Labisia forms are also sometimes called “Kura Kura,” meaning turtle or tortoise. This form is different from the more common green Turtleback Labisia. Instead of a mostly green base, it has a solid pale white to silver-white leaf surface with dark green turtle-shell markings. The leaves are also more oval and compact, giving the plant a clean, rounded look. Its high-contrast pattern makes it one of the most eye-catching Labisia forms for collectors who enjoy strong foliage markings. Light: Low to medium bright indirect light. Avoid direct sun. Water: Keep slightly moist; water when the top layer is nearly dry. Avoid drying out completely. Humidity: 70–90% Temp: 20–28°C Mix: Airy + moisture-holding mix, such as coco/peat + perlite + small bark. Extra Note: Avoid direct sun, as the pale leaf areas can scorch or stress more easily. This plant prefers stable humidity and consistent moisture. Avoid sudden dryness, harsh light, and soggy soil. It can be slow-growing and may take time to adjust after shipping, especially in cooler climates.
